Window On The West Performers

Youth Speech & Debate

The Calgary Stampede’s Youth Speech and Debate program encourages junior and senior high student participants to develop their critical thinking and public speaking skills. In October, over 100 competitors attended a joint junior and senior high speech competition. They presented a western- or agriculturally-related speech. Then in debate tournaments, held in November and January, over 90 teams debated an important agricultural issue. The top speakers and debaters from these events are invited to participate at Interpretations of Western Heritage, held during the 10-day Calgary Stampede. Prizes include two $1000 scholarships presented by the Calgary Stampede Foundation. Come and share this fascinating experience with our future statesmen.
