Rod was born in Stephenville, Newfoundland. His family moved back to Nova Scotia when Rod was six. The traditional Maritime music was passed on to him and his eleven brothers and sisters by his father. Rod moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1982 where he lives today. The Folk scene in Calgary continues to be vibrant and provides Rod with a great opportunity to play and share traditional music.
Mansel Davies - Founder of the Calgary Folk Club & Producer of the Calgary Folk Festival 1979 - 1986 wrote, "Rod Walsh is the genuine article - steeped in the music of the Maritimes, possessing an infectious love for the music and having the necessary skills to provide a great night of entertainment for any crowd. A very fine singer who uses his guitar as a second voice".
