Calgary Stampede Downtown
Attractions Committee - Chuckwagons
The Calgary Stampede
Downtown Attractions Committee was formed in 1947 and
has taken the Stampede experience from Stampede Park to
Downtown Calgary. Chuckwagons have been a significant
part of the Stampede since 1923 and the concept of
chuckwagon breakfasts soon became part of the downtown
attraction.
The Chuckwagon Breakfast Committee volunteers have
advanced from hand mixing pancake batter and serving a
few folks on the street to mixing 15 gallons of pancake
batter at a time and serving thousands of Stampede
visitors. It all takes place at Olympic Plaza, known as
Rope Square during Stampede week, everyday except parade
day and Sundays. The chuckwagons still come downtown and
many of the Rangeland Derby drivers are in attendance
serving up breakfast each morning, meeting hungry
cowpokes and signing autographs.
Volunteers from the Chuckwagon Breakfast Committee will
be on hand at the ATCO Kitchen Theatre to serve up some
of their famous pancakes and talk about chuckwagon
racing.
