Norma Barsness has been involved in painting and other art forms throughout her life. Her interests include pen and ink drawing, oil painting, cartoon drawing, fabric arts, contemporary quilting and most recently, acrylic painting on canvas. Apart from her one year of formal training at the Alberta College of Art and Design, Norma is self-taught. She has spent time in both the city and country. Working at the Calgary International Airport and in Downtown Calgary has given her the opportunity to draw inspiration from her surroundings such as the contemporary lines and reflections of glass windows. Her country lifestyle on the other hand, is reflected in work through her interest in people and the everyday things of life. She loves the outdoors and her landscapes show her love for reflection and bright colours. Her bold brushstrokes and brilliant colours are part of her signature style.
