WESTERN SHOWCASE
2007 WESTERN ART SCHOLARSHIP

On behalf of the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede

Western Showcase Scholarship Committee, we invite students
completing their final year of high school in Calgary or
Southern Alberta to enter the Western Art Scholarship
competition. Entries for the scholarship will be juried by a
panel experienced in the field of art. All decisions of the
Scholarship Committee are final.
Awards: City of Calgary and Southern Alberta (2 prizes
awarded in each category) First Prize $1,000 Second Prize $850
Third
Prize $650

The competition is open to all students who are full time
residents of Alberta, a Landed Immigrant or Canadian Citizen and
are completing their final year of high school in Calgary or
Southern Alberta during the 2006/2007 school year. Students who
are, or could be repeating their final year of high school are
eligible to enter this competition, but may only enter once.
Students must plan on continuing their education at a recognized
post-secondary institution by September 2009.

The work of art must be entirely the student's original work
and completed independently. Teamwork will not be considered.
Only one work per student may be submitted.

The work of art must depict themes of western culture,
lifestyle, heritage and characters, including but not limited to
the following: ranching, landscape, floral, rodeo, agriculture,
First Nations and portraits.

Any medium may be used. All flatwork must be suitably
mounted or framed. Three-dimensional work must be suitable for
display.

Entries must be received by April 13, 2007. The
winning students will be notified by telephone.

The work of art must be accompanied by a completed official entry form, which can be obtained from your
art teacher. (Art Teachers: one Entry Form is attached. Please
photocopy a sufficient supply). Deliver the work of art together
with a fully completed Entry Form to: Stampede Headquarters,
1410 Olympic Way. S.E., at the North entrance of the Stampede
Grounds. Attention: James Radtke. Monday through Friday only,
8:30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.

All winning entrants must display their work of art in the
Western Showcase area for the duration of the Calgary Stampede
from July 5 to 15, 2007. All other entrants will be displayed
depending upon space available. The Scholarship Committee will
have the right to exhibit or publish the works of art and the
names of the students, in print, voice or visual media. The work
of art will be for display only and will not be offered for sale
at or through the Calgary Stampede. All art is left at your own
risk. The Calgary Stampede is not responsible for loss or damage. Once
art is submitted there is no access to the art until Monday July
16, 2007.

All works of art must be collected by the student or the
student designate on Monday, July 16, 2007 between 10:00 a.m.
and noon in Hall D of the Roundup Centre. Any work of art that
has not been collected on time will be discarded.
Criteria for Payment of the Scholarship Award: By September 2009, scholarship winners must provide the
Scholarship Committee with: proof of full time enrolment at a
recognized post-secondary institution, and Social Insurance
